SchoolHouse Rap, an educational consulting group focused on K-12 diversity and storytelling initiatives, approached Creative Cresco when their founder Stephanie—a full-time elementary educator—identified a compelling funding opportunity. The Savannah River Nuclear Solutions (SRNS) grant program offered up to $1,000 to support innovative STEM initiatives in local school systems, perfectly aligning with Stephanie's passion for hydroponic gardening and hands-on student learning.
Challenge:
Despite her extensive classroom experience, Stephanie had never written a grant proposal and was unfamiliar with how to structure a compelling response that would resonate with evaluators. The SRNS grant required applicants to demonstrate multiple complex criteria: educational usefulness, easy implementation, broad student impact, curriculum alignment, and organized presentation with supporting references. With 380 applications expected and only 110 awards available across three funding levels, Stephanie needed expert guidance to stand out in this highly competitive environment.
Solution
We brought our strategic infrastructure and expert guidance to the grant writing process, adapting our approach to the unique requirements of educational funding. Working closely with Stephanie, we developed the "Beyond the Dirt: Exploring Hydroponic Gardening" program, creating comprehensive curriculum structure, learning objectives, implementation plans, and evaluation methods.
We ensured every SRNS requirement was thoroughly addressed while building a compelling narrative around direct student benefits and measurable educational outcomes. The proposal emphasized how the hydroponic system would engage all grade-level students through hands-on STEM learning, with clear success metrics that could be tracked and reported to stakeholders throughout the program lifecycle.
Outcome
SchoolHouse Rap was awarded the full $1,000 grant, placing them among the 110 successful applicants selected from a pool of 380 competitors. Our strategic approach resulted in funding for a complete hydroponic gardening system that will impact approximately 125 students per school year when the program launches in August 2025. Stephanie and our team were invited to attend the awards ceremony, where SRNS honored all grant recipients for their innovative educational contributions.
